Exterior
The Tiago falls in the small segment car with measurement of 3746 mm, 1647 mm and 1535 mm in length, width, and height. It’s fresh look is the outcome of a joint venture of Tata’s Pune, UK, and Italy design studio.
The designer has added a new honeycomb grille that resembles a smile. Below it, you have the similar design air dams and fog lights. Character lines run through the sides and along the rear, giving a more chic styling.
The rear end gets spoilers and rear windscreen washers with chrome branding below it. A black bumper and the parking sensors are welcome features in this car. With 14 inches wheels, the wheel to body ratio feels good on the Tiago.
The long roof antenna screams for attention that one cannot overlook, and that may not be a good thing. Tata should have given it a shark fin or even a simple small antenna towards the rear. Apart from the antenna, everything about the car looks good.
The car feels well built and the quality of the paint is also not the cheap kind.
Interior
The interior of the Tiago borrows the look and features from other Tata cars to put together a neat finish. The dashboard gets a black finishing with greyish touches and a hint of chrome outlines.
The instrument cluster has an RPM and speed dial with a small mid screen between them. This displays the fuel consumption, current gear, trip meter, and driving mode. It also shows you which doors are open for safety purpose. Behind the cluster is a steering wheel with control keys that is adjustable for height.
The center console holds the ac vents, infotainment system, 12V power socket with AUX and USB slot. You also get storage space, the gearbox, cup holders and handbrake along that line. There is plenty of storage space all over the car including a cooled glove box.
The driver's seat offers a good stance for an average built person. The seat is height adjustable and offers a good cushioning for comfort.
The rear seats do not offer much space as there are leg and headroom. The Tiago is ideal for sitting four people as the rear seat are small. Tall passengers will have to sit tight and it won't be the most comforting ride.
The Tiago has a boot space of 242 liter, which is good enough for a car in its segment. The rear seats fold down words to give you more room when required.
The Tiago get driver seat airbag as a basic safety feature. Only the XZ variant gets dual airbags, ABS, EBD, rear parking sensor. The infotainment system with Harman speakers is also limited to XZ variant.
Performance
The Tiago has an option of 1.2L petrol and 1.5L diesel engine, but only the former one is available in Nepal.
The 1199 cc, Revotron petrol engine holds 3-cylinders which can produce 85 PS of power @ 6000 rpm and 114 Nm of torque @ 3500 rpm. It comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox. This engine at times tends to get noisy at mid-level RPMs. It also fails to give a smooth ride experience in traffic situations as you can feel the jerks.
The 1047 cc Revotorq diesel engine is more refined of the two. This too has 3-cylinders and the same gearbox, but with a power of 70 PS @ 4000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque @ 1800-3000 rpm.
Tiago comes with 2 driving modes, city and eco. The default city mode is your regular mode for your day to day drive. When you want a more fuel efficient performance, turn on the eco mode. Do note that this will drop the power and speed of the car.
