As the Nexon is the first compact SUV from Tata, they had to start everything from scratch. The engines are brand new and designed to power the Nexon. When viewed from the outside, we can tell that Tata has done an outstanding job.

Exterior
Though it is a new car in a new segment, it uses the X1 platform seen in Tata Bolt and Zest. But the curvy design is unlike any car ever manufactured. The sloping bonnet and roof rear end gives it a unique touch. The front end gets projector headlamps, daytime running lights, and black hexagonal grille. Below the grille, there are large air dams and fog lamps on each side.
Around the car, you have ORVM with turn indicator, 16-inch alloy wheels, and plastic cladding on each side of the car. The roof holds a shark fin antenna, integrated spoiler with LED brake lights, and roof rails. This is the part that gets a different color in the dual tone version.
The rear end looks a little funky which some of you may not like too much. It has protruding tail lamps. And the rear windshield get a small wiper and wide glass. The rear camera is well concealed under the Tata logo. There are a rear bumper and four parking sensors as well.
This compact SUV is just under 4 meters but offers a ground clearance of 209 mm and 350 liters of boot space.
Interior
The interior of the Nexon gets many tones. It features black and beige colorway but silver, chrome and piano black schemes are also integrated into the Nexon. The mix of colors adds to the charm of the car.
The dashboard also looks appealing with the clear instrument cluster with a simple design. The 6.5” infotainment system on top of the dashboard is compatible with Android Auto and rear camera. It also gets 8 amazing speaker system from Harman Kardon on XZ+, and 4 on XM and XT.
Below the infotainment system, there are AC vents, climate control and other featured buttons. The is a 12V power socket, USB and Aux port as well. The 6-speed gearbox on the left of the driver's seat gets a silver insert. Behind it, you will find a rotary know which switches driving modes. The is an option of city, eco, and sports driving mode.
The handbrake that's placed on the passenger seat side feels inconvenient. This placement would have been better if it was in the traditional spot.
Below center armrest, you get ample storage space with two cup holders. You can close this space when not in use. Even the driver and the passengers get a good amount of space, headroom, and legroom. But due to the sloping design of the roof, getting into the car can be a little bit of an issue.
Tata has added dual airbags and ABS with EBD as a standard safety feature for the Nexon. You also can start the engine at a push of a button when the smart key is within proximity.
Performance
There are two newly developed engine in petrol and diesel option that powers the Nexon. The petrol option is a 1.2L Turbocharged Revotron Engine with 3 cylinders. This 1198 cc engine can give 110 PS of power @5000 RPM. Max torque capacity of this engine is 170 Nm @ 1750-4000 RPM.
The diesel option gets a bigger 1.5 L Revotorq engine with 4 cylinders. The Revotorq is 1497 cc, 4 cylinders turbocharged motor. It can give max power and torque of 110 PS @ 3750 RPM and 260 Nm @ 1500-2750 RPM.
Both these engines get 6-speed manual transmission. But Tata has recently got the Nexon with automatic transmission as well.
The automatic version gets smart hill assist and crawl function as well. These enhance the driving experience of the Nexon. But, Manual Tiptronic features allows you to shift gears manually.
It has an independent Mcpherson strut front suspension and a twist beam rear suspension. The suspension on the Nexon is stiff and do not provide the utmost comfort while driving on rough roads. The braking system used is a disc in the front and drum on the rear.
The fuel tank capacity is 44 liters, with a return of 21.5 kmpl on the diesel engine and 17 kmpl on the petrol version.
